On Thursday 9th March, WBro Kenny Greer, the Rochdale District Charity Steward, arranged to visit members of Salle Angelo Fencing Club at Heywood Sports Centre to see how an ELMC grant which allowed them to purchase two new electronic scoring sets had benefited them.
On his arrival he was delighted to learn that members of the 2301 (Heywood) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets were at the club to learn about fencing and spending time on the floor practicing their newly found fencing skills.
Each scoring set is connected to two fencers linking their weapon to the machine which identifies when an opponent registers a ‘hit’ and shows on the scoring machine with a red or green indicator and the points scored.
Paul Marr, the chief coach at Salle Angelo, was delighted to get the opportunity to give WBro Greer an insight into the sport of fencing and what the club is trying to achieve within the local community. He thanked the ELMC for their generous donation and support in purchasing the electronic scoring sets. He also highlighted that the new scoring sets would not only benefit the members of Salle Angelo, but are already being used to promote the sport of fencing in Primary Schools & Disability groups within the local community. He has invited WBro Greer on a visit to a Primary School during April which he promptly accepted.
