To Celebrate 50 Years in Freemasonry,WBro John Wood PProvGSupWks

On Wednesday 16th March 2022 Bury Lodge of Relief No.42 celebrated the 50th Golden Jubilee for a very special member of the lodge. WBro John Wood, is one of the iconic members of Bury Lodge of Relief and the evening was certainly a night to remember.

The Lodge tyled at 6.30pm.  WBro Leonard Kachingwe, the current Worshipful Master of Bury Lodge Of Relief, opened the Lodge after which the Provincial Deputation entered. The Worshipful Master offered the gavel to the APGM, WBro Alan Howard Kirwilliam PSGD, which he graciously accepted, before occupying the chair to conduct this Golden Jubilee celebration.
The Lodge room was full, with members from many other Lodges in attendance, a real mark of the man of the moment. The APGM delivered a very fitting tribute to WBro Wood for his many years of service to Freemasonry. It was clear to see that John Wood had given so much to Freemasonry and that he is held in high regard with all the Brethren present.
WBro Ray Sullivan then delivered a very personal, in depth, tribute to John. It was clear to see that they had both known each other outside of Freemasonry, as well as in it, and that they had formed a real bond of friendship together over the many years. Ray describing John as “one of the 3 serving members of the original gang”, everyone present witnessed how much they had done together and the strong brotherly bond they had formed.

The 50th Golden Jubilee Illuminated Certificate was then read out before being presented to WBro Wood by the Assistant  Provincial Grand Master. WBro Wood was then escorted around the lodge by the Dept Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, to the acclamation of all the brethren
The Worshipful Master presented the Assistant Provincial Grand Master with a cheque, on behalf of the members of the lodge, towards the EL2026 Festival. The deputation then retired and the Worshipful Master concluded the lodge business.

The social board was a very happy and joyous occasion, the dining room was full with a most fabulous atmosphere, and everyone present was treated to a fabulous 5 course meal. The formal toast to John’s health was proposed by WBro Kenneth Jones, in a very personal manner and it was received with warmth.
Several presentations took place to mark this special occasion including a crystal decanter personally engraved, and a very special tipple to fill it.  John responded in a most suitable manner, at the conclusion of which he received a standing ovation by all present.
A fantastic evening was had by all, the celebration had a real personal touch. It was certainly one which Bury Lodge of Relief No.42 can be justly proud of for many years to come.
